A pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment or a household animal, as opposed to wild animals or to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic or productive reasons. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, or for their song. Pets also generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits; keeping pets has been shown to help relieve stress to those who like having animals around. There is now a medically-approved class of "therapy animals," mostly dogs, that are brought to visit confined humans. Q. I have 3 cats and the youngest always comes running from wherever he is at in the house when he hears me turn on the fan and jumps right in the bed with me. It's sooo cute. The others will eventually come and run across my head while I'm sleeping or wake me up in the morning, but my youngest definitely has them beat in this category with his antics. My 2 cats each sleep on either side of me in bed. The dogs would like to also but the cats won't let them. My cat George is very dysfunctional since he was taken from his mom at 4 weeks. (He's now 7 years old). He kneads bread on me and puts his head on my shoulder and in the morning, gently taps my face until I wake up to give him his breakfast.
